Walkinshaw, in collaboration with Supashock, set out to create a vehicle that would redefine off-road performance. The result of their partnership was the Triton Xtreme, a beast of a machine equipped with high-performance Supashock suspension.

Supashock, renowned for their commitment to quality and high performance, had one goal in mind: to enhance the on and off-road ride and handling of the Triton Xtreme. They knew that this vehicle would face a multitude of challenges across Australia’s harshest terrains. To achieve this, Supashock focused on bolstering the shock absorbers in both performance and physical strength.

The Supashock advantage

Boasting a monotube design and equipped with remote reservoirs and large shock bodies, the Triton Xtreme dampers feature large 20mm chrome shafts and a robust 52mm body to ensure high rigidity and strength, and massive 46mm piston housed within the large shock body, capable of withstanding the most punishing conditions. 

The large oil volume within the dampers provides greater thermal efficiency, maintaining optimal damping performance and longevity even on harsh, corrugated roads. The separation of oil and gas prevents aeration (mixing of oil and gas), enabling superior damper response, resulting in an unrivalled ride and handling experience over extended periods of off-road driving.

Supashock achieved extraordinary tuning of the damping curves that exceed the on-road comfort of standard Triton suspension, and enhance off-road performance characteristics. This fine-tuning allowed for maintaining peak performance across a diverse range of terrains, and ensures the Triton Xtreme will conquer any challenge thrown its way.

Supashock’s commitment to quality is unwavering and rigorous testing procedures guarantee the Triton Xtreme’s superior performance. Utilising computer-aided analysis, the suspension package underwent simulations across various terrains and stress scenarios, ensuring its robustness and reliability.

Physical prototype testing followed, subjecting the Supashock dampers to both climate and lifecycle assessments. From extreme cold temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius to scorching heat exceeding 120 degrees Celsius, the dampers have proved their resilience. Additionally, they endured 3.5 million cycles of testing using a heterodyne frequency on Supashock’s custom dyno, ensuring longevity and optimal performance in the face of Australia’s most demanding conditions.

Real-world performance

The true testament to Supashock Triton Xtreme suspension capabilities came from real-world testing and tuning. The Triton Xtreme was put through its paces, from daily driving to heavy towing and even extreme off-road expeditions in the punishing Australian outback. Sensors strategically placed throughout the vehicle’s chassis and cabin captured valuable data, allowing Supashock engineers to analyse and fine-tune every aspect. By ironing out undesirable frequencies and behaviors that passengers would subconsciously feel, they achieved a highly desirable ride quality that feels like you are floating over surfaces while keeping you firmly connected to the road with precision and responsiveness.
